Charlotte Ann Cowgill Gillispie, 89, of Clarksburg, passed away on Friday, August 2, 2019 at River Oaks in Clarksburg where she had been a resident for the past year.

She was born July 22, 1930, in Clarksburg, the fifth of seven children of the late Byron Bertron and Ruth Marie White Cowgill.

On May 4, 1952, she married Charles Russell Gillispie, who preceded her in death on February 17, 1960. Surviving are their children: Brenda K. Medina and Charles R. Gillispie, both of Clarksburg.

She was “Mamaw” to three grandchildren and their families:  Max (Kristen) Corley and sons Declan and Will; Faustino Medina, III (Christin) and daughter Brooklyn and baby boy due in November; and Tiffany Johnson and children Landyn, Zyir and Damari.

She is also survived by one brother, Robert L. Cowgill and his wife Faye of Elkins, one very special nephew, Larry Joe Policano, who she kindly referred to as “Old Faithful”, two special nieces, Mary D. Barnett and Melanie H. Squires and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Charlotte was preceded in death by five sisters:  Betty L. (Jack) Dennison, Dorothy L. (Ray) Norris, Mary F. (Dominick) Policano, Ruth Jean (Harvey) Heater and Helen M. (Harvey) McGarry.

She was a 1948 graduate of Washington Irving High School and retired from WVABCC.

Charlotte was a member of South Chestnut Street United Methodist Church and was active in all church activities.  She loved to work jigsaw puzzles and watch all sports, especially tennis and football.  She was an avid WVU football and basketball fan. Her smile was infectious and could light up any room.

The family would like to express their love and appreciation to Dr. James Malone and the staff of River Oaks for their heartfelt care of our beloved mother and grandmother.
