Mary Delores Peasak, 85, of Bridgeport, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on August 1, 2026, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, Mary was the daughter of Xenia and Fred Wilson. She dedicated many years of her career to retail, working at Heck’s, Sears, and Elder-Beerman. More than the work itself, Mary loved the people. She had a gift for making others feel welcome and genuinely enjoyed meeting, talking with, and helping her customers.

In 1967, Mary married the love of her life, Emil Peasak. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and unwavering devotion to their family. In 1976, they built the first home on Kelly Drive, never imagining that their little street would become the perfect place to raise their family. Over the years, neighbors became lifelong friends, and countless memories were made through backyard gatherings, block parties, and holidays spent together. Mary loved cooking for those she cared about, and her broccoli rice casserole and cabbage rolls—made from recipes lovingly passed down through her family—became favorites shared around many tables.

Mary was an avid reader who passed her love of books on to her daughters, creating a lifelong appreciation for reading. Nothing brought her greater joy than being a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a constant presence in the stands, enthusiastically cheering on her children and grandchildren at countless sporting events and celebrating every milestone, big or small.

Although home was always where her heart was, Mary found special joy along the shores of the Carolinas and the Gulf of Mexico. Whether listening to the waves, feeling the warm sand beneath her feet, or simply spending time with those she loved, the beach was her happy place and a place of peace.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Xenia and Fred Wilson, and her siblings, Freddie Wilson and Liz Floyd.

She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Emil Peasak; her son, Josh (Julie) Peasak of Morgantown; her daughters, Jennifer (Battista) Destito of Clarksburg and Jeannie Messer of North Carolina; and her treasured grandchildren, Kerrington and Kannon Peasak, Eli and Madelaine Messer, and Saverio and Dante Destito, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to her life. She is also survived by her brother, Jim (Judy) Wilson; numerous nieces and nephews; and the dear friends and neighbors of Kelly Drive, who became family through the many years they shared together.

Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison St, Nutter Fort on Friday from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 8092 Third St, Stonewood, WV 26301 on Saturday, August 8, 2026 at 11:00 am with Father Kumar Reddimasu presiding.

In keeping with Mary’s wishes, cremation services will take place following the Mass.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, or West Virginia Public Broadcasting, organizations that were meaningful to Mary and her family.

Mary’s greatest legacy was not found in the places she worked or the things she owned, but in the love she gave so freely. She will be remembered for her gentle heart, quiet strength, generous spirit, and unwavering love for her family. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created and the love she shared will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her forever.

They are also deeply thankful for the family and friends who surrounded them with love, prayers, and countless meals, providing comfort and support during this difficult time.
