The saying goes that she who dies with the most fabric wins, so we are declaring Mom the winner.

Betty Mae Connolly Bond, 87, Lost Creek, entered the gates of heaven on Tuesday, May 5, undoubtedly welcomed by the many loved ones who had been eagerly awaiting her arrival.

She left an indelible mark of love and devotion on the hearts and lives of her large family, a whole community of friends and many acquaintances. Born in Ritchie County, WV, Betty entered the world with a bang on her mother’s birthday on July 4, 1932, the eldest daughter of Russell Anda and Virginia Mae (Moore) Connolly.

Betty was a graduate of Weston High School and the West Virginia Business College. On May 17, 1952, she married the love of her life, Walter Lee Bond, who preceded her in death in 1993 after 42 years of marriage. They raised children, cows and a variety of pets and fresh vegetables on the Bondarosa Farm in Mount Clare.

An avid quilter, Betty made much-cherished quilts for all of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as well as many nieces, nephews and friends. She was a charter member the Millennium Quilters. She won many awards for her quilts and throughout the years was honored to have many displayed in the Culture Center at the State Capitol Complex in Charleston.

Betty was also member of the Lost Creek Seventh Day Baptist Church, the LCSDBC Ladies Aid Society, the Lost Creek Senior Center and the Friendly Neighbors CEOS Club in Lost Creek.

Most importantly, she was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, sister and friend. She lived her life for her family, and each new grandchild and great-grandchild brought her such joy.

Betty will be lovingly remembered by her four children and their families: Dennis Bond and his wife, Kim; J. Bryan Bond and his wife, Leslie; Glenn Bond and his wife, Paula; Melanie Meck and her husband, Allan. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Kelly Bond; Michael Bond and his wife, Shawna; Lyndsi Moore; Nichole Bender and her husband, Henry; Tiffany Hoskins and her husband, Gregory; Brittany Jenkins and her husband, Tristan; Ashley Snyder and her husband, Andrew; Hayley Hampson and her husband, Zachary; Nathan Meck; and David Meck. She was Mamaw to great-grandchildren: Cameron and Jacob Webber, Jaden and Maya Bender; Clarice and Kayne Bond; Grant, Gabriel and Gatlin Hoskins; Reagan, Abram and Macy Jenkins; Addison and Grayson Snyder. She also held a special place in the hearts of her sisters-in-law Anna Margaret Spaur and her husband, Ronny, and Terri Bond.

In addition to her parents and husband, dear ones waiting to welcome her to heaven include: her sister Patsy Ann Smith and husband, James; sister Lucy Stewart; brothers-in-law Edwin Bond, James Ian Bond and Donald Stewart; and granddaughter Emily Bond.

Memorial donations may be made to: Camp Joy, c/o Lost Creek Seventh Day Baptist Church, P.O. Box 241, Lost Creek, WV 26385.

A private graveside service will be held in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.
