Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, WV on Sunday, September 1, 2019 from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. where services will be held on Tuesday, September 3, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Don Fowler presiding. Interment will follow at Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery.

Bill L. Spencer, 82, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 29 at his residence with his wife and daughter by his side.

 

 

He was born in Barbour County on June 23, 1937, a son of the late Buster B. and Clarice Furr Spencer.

 

 

Bill leaves behind his wife Joan Hunt Spencer whom he married on October 23, 1959 and their daughter Terry Spencer of Clarksburg.

 

 

Also surviving are his sister-in-law Phyllis Spencer; brothers-in-law; Ronald Hunt and Norman β€œLee” Weekley; nephew Mark Spencer; nieces Jackie Patterson, Cindy Freeland and Kim Bizjak; as well as several great-nieces and nephews.

 

 

In addition to his parents Bill was preceded in death by his brother Robert M. Spencer; sister Marilyn Ann Freeland; brother-in-law Jack Freeland; sisters-in-law Sharon Weekley and Judy Hunt; nephew Shon Spencer; niece Crystal Tenda; and great-niece Mattie Tenda.

 

 

Bill was a graduate of Philippi High School Class of 1955. He retired as Fire chief from the Clarksburg Fire Department after 30 years of service. He simultaneously was an employee of Stout Company, Inc. for various periods of time; starting after his high school graduation and working for many years before leaving due to his illness. Bill was a member of the IAFF Local #89. He was President Emeritus of the Professional Fire Fighters of WV. He previously served numerous years as a commissioner of the WV State Fire Commission. He was a former board member of the City of Clarksburg Federal Credit Union.

 

 

Bill was a member of the Vincent Memorial United Methodist Church.
