Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street Nutter Fort on Monday from 3-8PM. Funeral Services will be held in the funeral home on Tuesday at 11:00 AM with Pastor Ken Kelley presiding. Interment will follow in the Stonewall Park Cemetery.

James Russell Carpenter, Sr., age 91 of Stonewood, lovingly known to all as “PAP” passed away peacefully, surrounded by family, on Saturday April 30, 2016 at 11:30 AM after a brief illness.

He was born May 15, 1924 in Clarksburg, WV. He was preceded in death by his parents John and Myrel Baker Carpenter.  On December 17, 1945 he was married to Ruth Hughes from Wilkes Barre, PA in Hawaii where they met. His wife, Ruth preceded him in death on February 14, 1998. He was also preceded in death by his son, Richard Carpenter on August 24 1998 and his grandson, Jay Carpenter on January 30, 2016 and two brothers, George and Buddy Carpenter.

He is survived by three children, James and his wife, Barbara Carpenter of Lumberport, Ronald and his wife, Debby Carpenter of North View and Barbara and her husband David Lunsford of Stonewood.   He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Lisa Holcomb, Jennifer Anderson, Jessica Carpenter, Julie Carpenter, J. B. Forinash, David Lunsford, and Travis Kulick. He is survived by 14 great grandchildren, one brother, John Carpenter and wife Dorothy of Nutter Fort as well as several nieces and nephews.

He served his country in the United States Army. He worked in the coal mines for many years and was retired from Clinchfield Coal. He loved fishing, hunting, pitching horseshoes and his family. He was an avid Steelers, Pirates and WVU mountaineer fan. He was a member of the UMWA local 1501 and the Stonewood Horseshoe League. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather and will be sorely missed.

He attended Christian and Missionary Alliance Church in Stonewood.
