Obituaries

Patricia Louise Bickers Day, 87, passed away on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at her residence following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Clarksburg on November 16, 1930, a daughter of the late Bernard Basil and Florence Edna Jamison Bickers. She was a loving wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt and a surrogate mother to many.

Also preceding her in death were her husband of 35 years, John James Day; sister, Betty Ann Bickers Leggett and brother-in-law Randall Richard Leggett of Fairmont; mother-in-law, Anna Maude Davisson Day and father-in-law, Walter Roy Day of Clarksburg.

She is survived by two children, Penni Day Rexrode of Bridgeport, and Mark Day of Morgantown; several nieces and nephews: Elizabeth “Bunny” Guido, Keith and Jeannine Leggett, Mimi Jane Leggett all of Fairmont; and Rick and Marilyn Leggett of Niceville, FL. And all of their families. She is also survived by her beloved cat, Linc; and a “grand-parrot”, Peyton.
Patricia was a 1948 graduate of Washington Irving High School. She worked for J. C. Penney starting in the downtown Clarksburg store and retiring at the Meadowbrook Mall location after 31 years of service. She was a member of the Duff Street United Methodist Church. Over the years she spent summers at Lake Floyd and in later years was one of the “Shade Tree Ladies” at the Stealey Pool. She enjoyed playing in various bridge clubs, working puzzles with her friends, playing the slot machines and watching Mountaineer games.

Her lifetime passion was helping others and she loved delivering treats to hospital and nursing home patients. Even during her illness, she made sure that others were not forgotten and always put their needs before her own.

She will be missed by her family and her many friends. As she leaves this life in body, spirit and soul, many will say goodbye for now, while others who preceded her in death will be waiting to welcome her with open arms in heaven.

In keeping with her request, Mrs. Day will be cremated.

A gathering of family and friends  will be held at Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, on Wednesday, April 18, 2018 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. The memorial service  will be held at the conclusion of  the gathering at 12:00 p.m. with Pastor Mark E. Smith presiding.

Interment will follow in the Bridgeport Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the Duff Street United Methodist Church Building Fund, 204 Baker Avenue, Clarksburg, WV 26301, or to People’s Hospice, 327 Medical Park Drive, Bridgeport, WV 26330
