Obituaries

Rudolph Patrick Colombo, 82, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away on August 29, 2018, following an extended illness.

He was born on May 18, 1936, in Harrison County, the youngest son of the late Battista and Antonia Colombo.

Surviving are his wife, Sondra (Granett), one daughter, Dr. Amy Colombo of North Carolina, and one son, Rudy (Beverly); four grandchildren, B.G., Anni, Mary Quinn, and Ella Colombo of Lewisburg. One sister, Mrs. Josephine Colombo Quinn, and brothers-in-law Sam Granett (Barbara) of Austin, TX, and William Gonsorcik, and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by nineteen brothers and sisters: Sam, Anthony, Raymond, Orlando, Sam Guzzo, Frank, Rose Barberio, Pat Wartman, Velma and Angela Colombo, and Margret Lopez of Clarksburg; Russell of Fort Lauderdale, FL;  Dr. Joseph Colombo of Louisville, KY; Louis Colombo and Theresa Cuckler of Akron, OH; James Colombo, Sister Jean Colombo, and Dr. Armando Colombo of Parkersburg; Sister Mary Colombo of Wheeling; and sister-in-law Kathryn (BeBe) Gonsorcik.

Along with his brother Raymond and nephew Randy, Rudy was the co-owner of the Towne House Restaurant. He was also the owner of the Blackwater Falls Lodge Dining Room.

Rudy was a mountain of a man in his prime. An all-state football player, he played football for Marshall University. He went on to join the Army and played service ball. He was the unlimited wrestling champion of the second division Army. After the service, he played some professional football with the Washington Redskins.

He was a great lover of nature and children. He also loved hunting and fishing. Rudy was a great supporter of the American way of life and took pride in our great state of West Virginia.

There will be a gathering of family and friends on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, at which time a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated with Father Patsy Wash as Celebrant.  Inurnment will follow in the Holy Cross Cemetery.
