Ruth Jean Cowgill Heater, 89, of Clarksburg, passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at the Meadowview Manor in Bridgeport where she has been a resident for the past three years.

She was born December 28, 1927, in Clarksburg, the fourth of seven children of the late Byron Bertron and Ruth Marie White Cowgill.

On August 17, 1948, she married Harvey L. Heater, Sr., who preceded her in death on June 17, 1988. They were blessed with three children: Harvey L. Heater, Jr., Melanie H. Squires and husband Mike and Timothy A. Heater and wife Zandy all of Clarksburg.

She was “Nanny” to seven grandchildren and their families: James (Diane) Heater and daughter Pyper of Clarksburg, Stephanie (Rodney) Grilli and their children Brandon and Miranda of Centerville, VA, Amber Heater Post and her sons Garrett and Liam of Clarksburg, Corey (Rachel) Heater and their children Hunter and Alexandria of Clarksburg, Casey (Courtney) Heater and their daughters Chloe and Cylie of West Milford, Lora (Steven) Scarboro and their son Sawyer of Flowery Branch, GA and Emily (Michael) Moore of Bridgeport.

She is also survived by two sisters and one brother: Charlotte Gillespie of Clarksburg, Helen McGarry of Warren, OH and Robert L. Cowgill and his wife Faye of Elkins. One very special nephew, Larry Policano and two very special nieces, Brenda K. Medina and Mary D. Barnett all of Clarksburg and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and husband, Jean was preceded in death by three sisters: Betty L. Dennison, Dorothy L. Norris and Mary Frances (Fluffy) Policano all of Clarksburg.
She was a 1945 graduate of Washington Irving High School and worked for C&P Telephone Co. following graduation. She has also worked for her brother-in-law at Cash & Carry Market in Glen Elk and for her niece at her gift shop at Rosebud Plaza. She was a member of the Salvation Army where she taught Sunday School and was a member of the Ladies Home League. For the past 40 years she had attended South Chestnut Street United Methodist Church.

One of her greatest joys was baking her famous raisin-filled sugar cookies and chocolate fudge for her family for the holidays. Every Sunday afternoon her sisters would gather at her home for sweets and coffee and reminisce about “the good ole days”.

Although the stroke she suffered robbed her of her mobility, her mind continued to amaze her family and friends with her recollection of childhood memories, her knowledge of the Bible and her ability to recite several chapters in their entirety with her favorite being Psalm 46.

The family would like to express their gratitude and appreciation to the staff of Meadowview Manor for their heartfelt care of our beloved mother and grandmother.
