Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, on Monday, from 2:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. where the funeral service will be held on Tuesday, September 10, 2019 at 12:00 Noon with Pastor Fred Aves presiding.   Interment will follow in the Stonewall Park Cemetery where full military graveside honors will be accorded.

Sam “Grasshopper” Iaquinta, 89, formerly of Stonewood, WV, passed away on Friday, September 6, 2019, at his residence in Buckhannon, WV, following an extended illness.

 

Sam was born in Harrison County, on June 5, 1930, a son of the late Bernard and Catarina Mortura Iaquinta.

 

His wife, Claudette “Sugar” Critchfield Iaquinta, preceded him in death on July 23, 1998.

 

Mr. Iaquinta is survived by his daughter, Lisa Flesher of Summit Park, WV; his son, Samuel P. Iaquinta, and his grandson, Chris “Ziggy” Flesher.  Also surviving, are his significant other, Naomi “Beanie” Criss and her children, Thomas Criss of Abilene, TX and Susan Tenney of Buckhannon; and her four grandchildren; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by six sisters, Sophia Fratt, Mary Gearde, Anna Pulice, Jean Spence, Lucy Fazzini, and Rose Fazzini; and one brother, Joe Iaquinta.

 

Sam served as a veteran in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.  He was the owner and operator of the “Grasshopper”, the Recreation Poolroom, and Nutter Fort Discount. He was also the co-owner of the Clarksburg-Bridgeport Red Raiders.

 

He was an avid woodworker and enjoyed jogging.
