Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Friday from 3:00 pm to 8:00 pm, where funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 2, 2024 at 10:00 am with Reverend Clifford Schell and Pastor Tim Kelley officiating. Interment will be in the Bridgeport Cemetery.

Thomas Bernard Betler, of Nutter Fort, passed away at his home on October 29, 2024.

Tom, a nearly lifelong resident of Nutter Fort, West Virginia, was born at home in Pickens, West Virginia, on December 31, 1939 to Edward Emil Betler and Mary Catherine Clark Betler. On April 24, 1962, Tom married Karen Ann Michaels, who survives him.

Tom is survived by his four children, Lori Jackson (Jerry) of Nutter Fort, Kristi Schwartz (Bob Stemple) of Clarksburg, Craig Betler (Amanda) of Oakmont, PA, and Evan Betler (Sara) of Arlington, VA. Also surviving are grandchildren Colin Jackson, New York, NY; Garret Jackson, Chicago, IL; Madisen Long (Chase), Morgantown; Khori Miles (Eryca), St. Charles, IL; Annie Betler, Winston-Salem, NC; and Jack Betler, Oakmont, PA; and several nieces and nephews.

Tom was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, William “Bill” Betler (Becky) and Richard “Rick” Betler.

Tom graduated from Notre Dame High School, Class of 1957, and Salem College. He was a United States Army Veteran. He retired from CNG Transmission Corporation after a career in IT and enjoyed his retirement for many years as he golfed, attended WVU sporting events, attended hundreds of the grandkids’ sports and theater events, and traveled with Karen.

For decades, he attended Vincent Memorial United Methodist Church, and for many years served as the church Treasurer. He attended Duff Street United Methodist Church in recent years. Additionally, he was active in the community and served as the President of Clarksburg National Little League during the construction of the concession stand at the park in Nutter Fort; was a member of the Governor’s Task Force to reduce the State budget under Gaston Caperton; served on Nutter Fort Town Council for several terms; served on the Clarksburg Mission Board of Directors for several years; was a member of the Nutter Fort Lions Club and former member of the Nutter Fort Volunteer Fire Department.

His family expresses their appreciation for the care provided by WVU Hospice, WVU Home Health, and the in-home caregivers.
