Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, on Monday from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. There will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. with Deacon John Yaquinta presiding to conclude the visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 28, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Stonewood, with Father Kumar Reddimasu as celebrant. Honoring his wishes, Mr. Barnes will be cremated following the Mass.

Salvatore Joseph “Sam” Barnes, 73, of Shinnston, WV, passed away on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at Ruby Memorial Hospital following a sudden illness.

He was born in Clarksburg, WV, on July 1, 1952, a son of the late Robert Mays and Josephine Louise Barberio Barnes.

Sam was married on September 5, 1970, to Rose Catherine “Cathy” Leasburg Barnes who resides at their home in Shinnston.

Also surviving are one daughter, Mary Catherine Knapp and husband Shawn of Bridgeport; two grandchildren, Tristan James Knapp and wife Taylor Marie of Bridgeport, and Ryan Joseph Knapp of Bridgeport; and one great grandson, Jace Thomas Knapp. He also leaves behind one brother Robert “Junior” Barnes and wife Virginia of Mechanicsville, VA; five sisters-in-law, Elizabeth “Bets” Barnes, Sherry Barnes, Ann Dotson and husband Sandy, Donna Flores, and Theresa Leaseburg; two brothers-in-law, Vincent Leaseburg and wife Dixie and Robert Clise and wife Susan; as well as several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was also preceded in death by three brothers, John Barnes, Jimmy Barnes and Randy Barnes; three sisters, Judy “Mitzi” Andrew, Rosella Matheny and Mary Barnes; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Henry C. and Catherine “Kate” Leasburg; five sisters-in-law, Deloris Barnes, Jone Barnes, Sally Leasburg, Shelby Leaseburg, and Beverly Leaseburg; six brothers-in-law, Kenneth Leaseburg, David Andrew, John Matheny, Eddie Leaseburg, Ron Leaseburg, and Russell Leaseburg; one nephew, Blaine Charcandy; and lifelong friends, Jimmy and Jody Honce.

Sam retired from the City of Clarksburg and attended Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steeler and Notre Dame fan. Sam enjoyed gardening, canning, cooking during the Holidays, and frying fritti during the Italian Heritage Festival. He was famously known for his cheesecakes. Above all, he loved spending time with his daughter, being around his grandsons and son-in-law, Shawn. He will be sadly missed by all of those who knew and loved him.
