Brock William Crabtree left this life to be with his Savior Jesus Christ on 2 January 2018. He was born 18 June 1965 in Arlington, VA, son of Ann Crabtree of Shinnston.

Brock is survived by his wife of 29 years, LaDonna Crabtree, children Kayla, Krista and Kara; grandchildren Braxton Garreth, Jace and Riley; brother Heath and wife Debbie, their children Savannah, Mason and Olivia of Winchester, VA. Brock was preceded in death by his son Garreth Brock, who passed away in 2017.

Brock graduated from Lincoln High School where he was active in track, wrestling, football and 4H.

After high school graduation and Army Basic Training he entered Fairmont State College. Brock participated in Army ROTC and was selected to be Cadet Corps Commander. He received a Regular Army commission in 1987 and graduated from College in 1988 with a Bachelor of Science degree. Graduating at the top of his ROTC class, Brock was one of a select few to be offered an Active Duty tour with the Regular Army. Before entering active duty, he married the love of his life, LaDonna Moore on 24 December 1988. Brock was first assigned to Ft. McClellan, AL for the Chemical Officer Basic Course. From there he was assigned to 3rd Infantry Division in Baumholder, GE as Battalion Chemical Officer. While in Germany Brock and LaDonna witnessed the fall of the Soviet Union and the arrival of their first child Garreth. Before Garreth was born, Brock’s unit deployed to Kuwait for Operations Desert Shield/Storm where Brock’s unit was at the “tip of the spear.” Brock returned from Kuwait in 1992 and was selected for promotion to Captain. The family left Europe and Brock was selected for assignment to the Chemical Biological Defense (CBD) Command at Aberdeen Proving Ground, MD. During his assignment Brock spent many months of rotations in Russia and at Johnson Atoll as part of the US negotiation and oversight of the destruction of Soviet Chemical and Biological weapons. While there, Brock and LaDonna had their second child Kayla. Brock attended Air Assault School and was once again distinguished by being selected as Commander of CBD Command. After successful command Brock went into brigade operations at Ft. Stewart, GA. In 1998 Brock was again selected for promotion, this time to Major. His next assignment placed him on a Readiness Evaluation Team where he assessed units for combat operations. From there Brock went on to be the Operations Officer of a Chemical Brigade. The Crabtree’s completed their active duty service shortly after the birth of their third child Krista. Brock attended command college and received the rank of LTC. Upon leaving active duty in 2004, Brock was hired as a Program Analyst for the FBI in Clarksburg where his fourth child Kara was born.

Brock W. Crabtree entered on duty with the Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) Division of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on March 21, 2004. Brock was a Management and Program Analyst assigned to the National Data Exchange (N-DEx) Program Office for the first three years of his FBI career, when the system was in its infancy stages. Brock was instrumental in laying the groundwork for the current success of the N-DEx System. He was quickly recognized for his capability and leadership, which was what led him in 2007 to become a part of the Strategic Management and Leadership Support Executive Staff, where he worked for over ten years.

As a key member of the Strategic Management and Leadership Support Executive Staff, Brock supported the Assistant Director and Deputy Assistant Directors in determining the long-term strategic direction for the Division. In doing so, Brock also served as the CJIS Division’s Strategy Management System (SMS) Coordinator.

During his FBI career, Brock earned multiple awards, but in 2013, he was honored as a recipient of the Assistant Director’s Award for Excellence in Strategy Management. The following is a quote from the award submission: “He is an exceptional, highly respected leader in the CJIS Division. His opinion is sought by others who place value in transparent, honest discussion. He does not waver in his values and daily executes all exchange as if he was answering directly to the President of the United States. He constantly strives toward excellence and daily seeks to increase his knowledge. He is an asset to the CJIS Division.”

Through his work as a part of the Executive Staff, Brock came to be recognized by many within CJIS as well as FBI Headquarters. His dedication, his passion for making a difference, or, in his own words “moving the needle”, as well as his integrity, will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Brock was an avid seeker of fun and he loved to document the adventures with pictures and video. His wife and children were his life and he loved spending time with his family and friends. They enjoyed camping, boating, skiing, hunting, amusement parks, trips to the beach, attending school sports, celebrating holidays, birthdays etc. Brock will be truly missed by anyone who had the good fortune to know him.

A graveside service will be held at the WV National Cemetery on Friday, January 12, 2018 at 1:00 pm where full military graveside honors will be accorded.
