She also leaves behind several nieces/nephews including Velma Scurlock, Ohio; Danny Haggerty, Sr. (Debbie), Lost Creek; Sondra Gainer Koon (Charles Dennis), Bruceton Mills. Many great nieces and nephews also survive; but she spent her final years enriching the lives of her great niece and great-great niece Shelby Gainer and Abby Weber. Eva had many special friends including Edith Major (Arizona), Mary Ellen Fletcher Bolovan (Indiana), Bill and Jane Davis Weida (Wisconsin), and all of the others at Hacker’s Creek Pioneer Descendants (HCPD), whom she called her second family. She also wanted to thank Bill Price and April Boggs for taking such good care of her to the end.

In 1948, Eva graduated from Unidis High School in West Milford. She began working at McCrory’s 5 &10, then at the Working Man’s Store, then as a night supervisor of Clarksburg Taxi, then at the Harrison County Courthouse, then at OJ Morrison’s before starting with Sears and Roebuck in Clarksburg. She was then transferred to Fairmont, where she was the head of the catalog division before retiring in 1985. Eva then worked as a travel agent for American Destinations and travelled from Canada to Florida, before she finally retired. She was also co-owner of a beauty salon in Clarksburg in her younger years.
Eva was a strong-willed independent woman who remodeled her home herself and gardened year-round. She also took in two of her siblings and cared for them until their death and cared for several of her grandchildren. Eva loved crafting and took pride in living alone until shortly before her death. As her time on this earth drew to a close, those who met her and helped care for her commented on how wonderful and sharp she was up until the end. She spent her final days making sure everything was in place for her service (including her hair and nails), that her affairs were in order and that her survivors would have an easier time in their mourning. She attended Christ United Methodist Church in Adamston until it closed. Eva was a Saturday volunteer at Hacker’s Creek Pioneers Descendants Historical and Genealogical Society of Central West Virginia Library for 33 years. She received the “History Hero’s Award” in 2003. Eva was always willing to help people with their genealogical records. She took pride in connecting people she met with their ancestors.
