Richard Wayne Mitchell, II, 62 of Clarksburg, formerly of Charleston passed away on June 7, 2025 at the Bridgeport Healthcare Center.

Richard is survived by his daughter, Gabrielle Ballard; stepdaughter, Taylor (Wes) Tully; grandchildren, Addison and Grayson; former wife and friend, Terri Atkinson Mitchell and her sisters, Sherri (Greg) Woods, Pammy Harmon and Debbie Atkinson.

He is also survived by his siblings, Mary Ann (John) Janicki, Susan (Chris) Krug, Daniel (Donna Baldini) Mitchell, Lora Secret (companion Chuck Kersting) and Jayne Mitchell (companion John Herbig); brother-in-law, Kevin Page; nieces, Joanna (Ryan) Coster, Jessica Williams, Jordan (Josh) McGrath, Dru Mitchell, Sarah (Jake) Willis, Rachel and Grace Krug, Bailey and Mary Claire Page, Alex Secret, Emma Mitchell; nephew, Jack Mitchell; great nieces and nephews, Cooper and Olivia Williams, Cameran and Charlotte Coster, Brooks and Mia Willia, Aspen, Landon and Layden Okel; and many cousins.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Richard Wayne and Mary Lou Mitchell; sister, Julia Page; and mother-in-law, Ramona June Atkinson.

Richard made Charleston WV his home where he was a successful jeweler at McCormick’s Jewelers. Richard always served the community since he was a young boy with the Cub Scouts, continuing through high school where he was camp counselor with the Easter Seals and continued as an adult Cub/Boy Scout leader. Richard also volunteered at the Clay Center and Go Mart Ball Park and enjoyed ringing the bell for the Salvation Army. As a 17-year glioblastoma survivor, he was proud to walk in the Relay for Life.

Richard was a man of many passions besides jewelry. He loved hiking, fishing and belting out karaoke like a rockstar. If it had anything to do with West Virginia, he was all in. Visiting state parks was his version of a five-star vacation and nothing beat family time on the Buckhannon River where he caught his first muskie. He was a diehard WVU sports fan—it didn’t matter the sport, as long as it was gold and blue. He also had a soft spot for the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates. And if they pulled off a win you’d hear him yell “Raise the jolly rancher!” Even if no one quite knew what he meant, he sure did.

The family would like to thank the staff of Bridgeport Healthcare Center.
