Blanche Reva Knapp Fowler of Clarksburg passed away peacefully at the Clarksburg Nursing and Rehab Center on July 1, 2018, at the age of 101 years.

Blanche was born on January 9, 1917 in Doddridge County, WV, the daughter of the late Robert Cecil Knapp and Hallie Dobbins Knapp. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Woodrow “Woody” Fowler, two brothers, Cecil and Glenn Knapp, two sisters, Ella Richards and Helen Westfall, and a son-in-law Henry F. Diley.

Blanche is survived by three children, Nancy Diley of King George, VA, Robert Fowler and wife Nancy of Clarksburg, with whom she made her home prior to entering the nursing facility, and Donald Fowler and wife Barbara of Fort Mill, SC.  Also left to cherish fond memories of her are eight grandsons, Paul Diley and (Vicki), Steven Diley (Mandy), David Diley (Kim), Gary Diley, Andrew Fowler (Teressa), Scott Fowler (Angie), Daniel Fowler (Nicole), and Tim Fowler (Michelle) along with 13 great grandchildren, Michael, Nicholas, Austin, Andrew, Amber, Brittany, AJ, Jonah, Kora, Emily, Ian, Evelyn, and Ryan, and several nieces and nephews.

Blanche graduated from Unidis High School and was employed as a caregiver of the children of several families in the Clarksburg area.  After her marriage to Woody, she became the bookkeeper for W W Fowler Roofing and Sheet Metal.  She was a long-time member of the Clarksburg Baptist Church where she served in many capacities: treasurer of the American Baptist Women, chairman of the Shoebox Ministry, member of the Board of Trustees, Young at Heart, and Goldeneers.  She enjoyed meeting her friends at the Senior Citizen Center each Friday to play cards.

Blanche was a member of the Women of the Moose and served in many chairs.  She was so proud of achieving the degrees of Academy of Friendship, Star Recorder, and College of Regents. She was elected as International co-worker for the Ladies of the Moose.  She spent many hours cooking for the “25 Club”.  She was active with the American Legion and chaired the Poppy Sale for many years and was a member of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary.

She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother.  She treasured her grandchildren so much.  She was fondly referred to as “Meme” by many of them. She enjoyed family gatherings and parties.  She loved picnics at the home of friends.  She made beautiful quilts, afghans, and doilies and gave them to friends that she cared so deeply about.

Her family would like to thank the Clarksburg Nursing and Rehab Center for the wonderful care they provided for her in the last 21 months.

Blanche’s family will receive friends at Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Sunday, July 8, 2018 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. where the funeral will be held on Monday, July 9th at 12:00 Noon with Reverend David Hulme officiating.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests making donations to the Clarksburg Baptist Church or a favorite charity in her name.
