A gathering of family and friends will be held on Tuesday, January 2, 2023 from 3:00 pm to 5:30 pm at Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison St, Nutter Fort, where a memorial service will be held at the conclusion of the gathering at 5:30 pm with Pastor Harley Jeffries presiding. A private family interment will be held at the Sunset Memorial Park where full military honors will be accorded.

Charles William “Chuck” Messman, 79, of Clarksburg, WV passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023 at his residence.

He was born in Clarksburg on January 11, 1943 a son of the late William H. and Ruby Louise Mitchell Messman.

Surviving Chuck are one sister, Melinda Elliot of St. Mary’s, WV; four nieces and nephews, Candice Renee Gray, Sharon Louise Joyce, Russell Lee Rogers, and Michelle Ray Olfield; 29 great nieces and great nephews; and his first wife, Shirley Messman.

In addition to his parents, Chuck is preceded in death by his wife, Carol J. Gregg; two brothers, Russell Lee and Kevin Dean Messman; one sister, Ruth Louise Rogers; one niece, Connie; one nephew, David; and his close friend, Sharon Lane.

Chuck attended Washington Irving High School and went on to serve his country in the United States Army. He worked in construction most of his life having been employed at Lang Brothers and finishing his career at MEC Construction.

He loved attending car shows with his friends and owned quite a few antique cars over the years. He enjoyed playing pool, attending family get-togethers, dancing, singing, playing the guitar, and he loved his cats. He was a member of the Harrison County VFW where he loved playing pool on Thursdays with the guys.

A private family interment will be held at the Sunset Memorial Park where full military honors will be accorded.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that donations be made out to the Humane Society of Harrison County, 2450 Saltwell Rd, Shinnston, WV 26431.
