Frances June Davis Mason, 97, of Nutter Fort, WV has gone to heaven to be with her son, mother, and dad, on May 1, 2019 at River Oaks Health Care Center, Clarksburg.

She was born in Johnstown, WV, on May 23, 1921, a daughter of the late Clairden Hamilton Davis and Etta Myrtle Sullivan Davis. She was preceded in death by her husband Ralph Mason whom she married on July 27, 1940 and passed away April 3, 1983. She was an only child and the last remaining member of her immediate family.

She is survived by her granddaughters; Natalie Mason Fox and companion Paul Whitehair of Anmoore, Kellie Jo Mason Strader and husband David of Falls Run, WV; two great-grandchildren; Sydney Laken Strader and Casey Mason Fox; and her daughter-in-law Marsha Gay McCarty Mason and companion CJ Sundstrom of Hastings Run. Frances is also survived by cousins LaDonna Davis and husband Larry, Rick Davis and wife Melinda, and Sharon Simons; and niece Anna Roach Bocock and husband Ed of Indiana, along with many friends.

Along with her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her precious son Stephen Ralph Mason.

Frances was a lifelong resident of Nutter Fort, having lived on Ohio Avenue since she was the age of five. She was a graduate of Roosevelt Wilson High School Class of 1940 where she played clarinet in the band and continued to play in the Harrison County Band. She was a homemaker who was devoted to her family and was an especially loving “Nanny” to her grandchildren. She worked until the age of 88, sitting and providing company to the elderly for nearly 30 years.

Frances was the oldest member of First Baptist Church of Nutter Fort where she attended for 81 years and was baptized at the age of 14. She was a member of American Baptist Women where she held an office. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Clarksburg Chapter since 1960 and received a 50-year service award on December 3, 2011; White Shrine of Jerusalem 1962; Order of the Amaranth 1963; and was a member of the Christian Women’s Circle starting in 1955. She was also a member of the Red Hat Club. She had a love of flower-gardening and most of all she loved her family and grandchildren. Frances was a wonderful mom, daughter, mother-in-law, second mother, neighbor, and devoted wife. She was a pillar of the Nutter Fort community.

Frances was very proud of her family and church and was a kind and caring lady. In fact, she started most sentences with “Honey” or “Dear”. Frances had a lot of challenges in her life and met each one with faith, strength, and courage. She lived her life as a genuine example of God’s grace and set a shining example for us all.

A special note of thanks to the River Oaks Staff and to Frances’ long-time caretaker and manager, Jennifer Steele and “adopted” second son, Terry McNair of Virginia. In addition, many friends and neighbors loved and helped her throughout the years, and she appreciated their many acts of kindness.

Life is a journey threading together moments in time. Our memory of moments shared with Frances will keep her alive in our hearts.
