Harold Eugene “Gene” Ray of Clarksburg, WV, passed away on Friday, December 21, 2018, at the Salem Genesis Nursing Home following a brief illness.

He was born in Salem, WV, on October 28, 1948, a son of the late Nora Virginia Lattea Ray and Edward Branson Ray of Salem.

He is survived by his loving companion Darlene Fincham Anderson, who resides at their home in Clarksburg; one daughter, Dixie Davis of Georgia; sons Chad Fincham and wife Meghan of Lost Creek, Travis Fincham and wife Amanda of Clarksburg, Brent Ray and wife Mary of Virginia. Also surviving are his grandchildren; Carolyn Wommack and husband Jordan of Georgia, Rebecca Davis of Georgia, Christopher Stanley, Alexus Stanley, Madilin Fincham, Waylon Fincham, Emzie Fincham, Jozee Fincham, as well as several nieces and nephews. Also surviving is his previous wife and good friend Marie “Cookie” Watson.

Gene was the youngest of seven siblings and was preceded in death by his siblings; George Ray, Alvin Ray, Thelma Alderman, Elaine Childers, Vera “Bunny” Ray, and Connie Thompson. He was also preceded in death by his significant other Jannie Nixon.

Gene was a business owner of Ray’s Drywall and Painting. When not working or cherishing his grandchildren he enjoyed his peace and quiet while fishing. He was an avid hunter and appreciated a good game of poker.

Per his and his family’s request Mr. Ray will be cremated.

A gathering of family and friends will be held at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, on Saturday, December 29, 2018, from 2:00 to 7:00 p.m. A memorial service will be held at the conclusion of the visitation at 7:00 p.m. with Reverend Bryant Bailey presiding.
