Edward Verdell Martin went home to be with the Lord on Friday March 8, 2024.

Born in Clarksburg, WV on July 20, 1943 to the late John W. and Welba Lee Martin, Edward was a 1961 graduate of Washington Irving High School. He was a remarkable student athlete, setting school records in track and field.

Edward worked 33 years as a lineman for Monongahela Power Company, and was a Staff Sergeant in the Army Reserve.

“Preach”, as he was known as by friends and family, was an amazing storyteller and jokester. He enjoyed watching sports, especially basketball and football, and was a member of Horizons Church.

Along with his parents, Edward was preceded in death by his six elder siblings, Lillian, Cora, Ina, Autrice, William “Bill”, and John “Bubba” Martin, all formerly of Clarksburg.

He is survived by his wife Linda Martin whom he married in 1988. He is also survived by his first wife Donna Oliverio Martin Nutter. He is also survived by his three children, Michelle Martin (Chris) Simpson of Versailles KY, Michael C. Martin of Clarksburg , and Melissa “Missy” Martin (Ian) McAra, also of Clarksburg.

Edward had 5 grandchildren, Lexi Martin, Ambra Martin (Ricky) Hardy, Michael McAra, Matthew McAra, and Luke McAra.

He also had 3 great grandchildren, Nautica Skinner, Carson Goelzer, and Luxton Hardy and several nieces and nephews.

Edward had one stepdaughter Mendi Scott (Francis) Scott, three step grandchildren, Angelica, Lexy, Austin (Johnna) Scott, and three step great grandchildren, Cohen, Kobe, and Jonylah.

In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Martin will be cremated.
