Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 pm, where a Prayer Vigil will be held at 7:30 pm to conclude the visitation.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 30, 2017 at 10:00 am at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church.   Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Helen Harriet Yankowski Mihaliak, age 93, departed this life on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at 7:25 am following a brief illness. Helen was a lifelong resident of Stonewood having passed away at the home of her daughter in Frederick, Maryland surrounded by her loving family.

 

She was born in Stonewood on August 12, 1923, a daughter of the late William and Anna Potiuk Yankowski.

 

She was married to James Paul Mihaliak, Sr. on January 31, 1948, who preceded her in death on April 16, 2007.

 

Surviving are three children, James Paul “J.P.” Mihaliak, Jr. and his wife Rose Mary (Carlomany) of Fenwick Mountain, WV, Thomas William Mihaliak and his wife Gail (Skeen) of Stonewood, and Monica Helen Maditz and her husband Gary of Frederick, MD; two grandchildren, Rhyan Phillip Maditz and his wife Kristina Laura Braunlich-Maditz of Royal Oak, Michigan and Adara Rae Mihaliak McCarty and her husband Zackery of Marysville, Ohio. She dearly loved spending time with her many special nieces and nephews.  She was also preceded in death by three sisters and brothers-in-law, Mary Strogen and her husband Martin, Viola Kovach and her husband John, and Sue Barron and her husband Paul.

 

Helen was a graduate of Roosevelt Wilson High School. She had an optimistic attitude and was always full of life.  She was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother.  Rhyan and Kristina are expecting their first child in April and Helen was looking forward to becoming a great grandmother.  She was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church along with being a lifelong member of the Catholic Daughters of America.
