Loretta “Jean” Ware Hyman, 97, a resident of Stonewood for the last seven decades, went home to the Lord on Thursday, October 2, 2025.

Formerly of North View, she was born there on November 28, 1927, the third child of late Howard and Mary Bailey Ware.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family, having also been preceded in death by Gerry, Robert, Howard and Nancy.

She graduated from Roosevelt Wilson High School in 1945, and then on October 25, 1946 she married Joe Hyman. Joe was the love of her life. He was a WWII veteran and was a letter carrier in Stonewood for many years and possibly the first carrier in Stonewood. He preceded her in death in December, 2000 after 54 years of marriage.

In 1968 she was able to pursue her passion for helping others by completing training from the Clarksburg School of Nursing and gained her Nursing license. She went on to become the state president of the WV LPN Nursing Association in 1975. She made this accomplishment with four lively boys at home while keeping up with a busy house and finding time to support and care for others. Jean was always willing to help when the need was there for both family and her many friends. She would drop everything if she was asked to help.

Jean also found time to also volunteer with several organizations over the years, including the Veteran’s Hospital, VFW Auxiliary, American Legion, Army Mothers and the Senior Citizens as well as many hours to her church, North View United Methodist Church where she supported the annual egg sale.

Her passion for her faith never waivered and she attended North View United Methodist Church until she was no longer physically able to make the journey to attend service. Her church never left her heart, and members and clergy made regular visits to her.

Family was the center of her world. Nothing was more important to her than raising her boys, hosting family holiday dinners and organizing the annual family reunions.

Also preceding her in death was her daughter-in-law Julie.

She is survived by her sons Dan, Dave and Bill and daughters-in-law Maggie and Mary.

She was blessed with 10 grandchildren, Kim and Kerrie Hyman, Amy (Scott) Posey, Will (Rosie) Hyman, Shelly (Gordon) Dulcich, Jennifer (Damon) Hyman-Wood, Michael Hyman, Steve (Ani) Hyman, John and Joe Hyman. She has 17 great grandchildren whom she was so proud of and one great great grandchild who is new to this world. It made her very happy to enjoy their laughs and energy and to know that they were growing up strong.

She is also survived by many nieces and nephews whom she treated as her own.

Jean was an exceptional friend, mother, grandmother, aunt and nurse and will be dearly missed by all who knew her. A more selfless person could not be found, and we are at a great loss for her compassion to leave this world with her.

Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Monday from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, where funeral services will be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2025 at 11:00 am with Reverend Richard Settles officiating. Interment will be in the WV National Cemetery.
