Friends will be received at Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort from 1:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 12, 2016. A Rosary Service will be held at 3:00 p.m.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, July 13, 2016 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 126 E. Pike Street, Clarksburg, with Father Patsy Wash and Father Christopher Turner as concelebrants.   Internment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mary Ellen Cherubino

August 23, 1921 – July 1, 2016

 

Mary Ellen Cherubino, 94, of Clarksburg, entered into the Kingdom of God on Friday, July 1, 2016, at Sagepoint Senior Living in La Plata, MD.

 

Mary was born in Wilsonburg, WV on August 23, 1921, to the late Francesco and Teresa Allowatt.   She spent her childhood and adolescent years in Shinnston, WV.

 

Mary married the late Frank Joseph Cherubino on September 4, 1948, and resided in Clarksburg, WV until his death, November 15, 2000.

 

Mary was a devout catholic and active member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish. Through her work she touched many lives by participating in the Mustard Seed Donation Center, Cub Cadet of the Blue Army, Catholic Daughters and Sacred Heart League, and she initiated enthronement of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Pilgrim Mary home visitation program. She enjoyed working in the cafeteria of Notre Dame High School. Serving the children was the highlight of her day.

 

Mary moved to Hughesville, MD in June 2010 to live with her daughter Teresa and son-in-law John.   While there she enjoyed participating in many Senior Center programs, including the Senior Prom where she danced and sang on her 92nd birthday.

 

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, Francesco and Teresa Allowatt; brothers,

Anthony R. Allowatt, Joe Allowatt, and John Allowatt; sisters,Rosanne Fragman, Catherine Cherubino, Faye Loretta, and Rosalie Aquino; daughter Mary Ann Cherubino and grandson, Adam Cherubino.

 

Mary is survived by her three children, Teresa M. Grimes and son-in-law John C. Grimes of Hughesville, MD, Francie A. Fox and son-in-law Davis B. Fox of Fredericksburg, VA, and Frank G. Cherubino of Clarksburg, WV; grandchildren, Christopher Acker, Ryan Fox and wife Katie Fox, Kristen Angilletta and husband Francis Angilletta III, and John M. Grimes and husband Chris Grimes; great-grandchildren, Tyler Fox, Emma Fox, Alyssa Brown, Anaya Brown and Caiden Cherubino; several nieces and nephews, as well as many wonderful friends.

 

Jesus was the center of Mary’s life and she spent many hours in prayer. Her life was a true example of Christian living to all who knew and loved her.

 

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully request donations to the Immaculate Conception Catholic Parish in her name.
