Stan Pickens was my band director in junior high in Elkins, WV. He was just the best. He had the jr high band and Jack Basil the high school band. We always won awards. I thought he was just the best and know his friends and family have to miss him.

Roseann, Lisa and Laura, I am so saddened to hear of Stan's passing. I have so many memories from various stages of life, all of which I will cherish. I pray for peace and strength for you as you search for a new normal without your patriarch. So many people have been blessed from contact with Stan, myself included. May he rest in peace. Love to you, Barb Hershey

My sincere condolences to Stan's family. We were involved together with the Job's Temple Association. A gentleman and a special friend.

Stanley was a fine gentleman who was always a great friend of our family and especially my father, the late Earl "Tex" Gainer of Glenville, WV. My deepest sympathy to the family. May God bless now and always. He will be missed. Sincerely, Mark Gainer

I’m incredibly sorry not to have visited Uncle Stan again before he left for Heaven. I am confident I will see him again in our eternal home with Jesus. I thank God for blessing our family with a loving person. He was a great family leader with vision. Some people are just gifted. He knew how to use his influence for good. Never for himself. I wish we had more time together, but eternal life is forever. We will catch up then. Until then we miss him with all our hearts.

I had the honor and pleasure to work with Stan when he was championing federal and state issues of importance to the oil and gas industry, and he was a stellar advocate and leader among his industry. His work through IOGA and the Appalachian Energy Group (uniting oil and gas interests in seven states with multiple common issues) was rewarding and productive. My deepest sympathy to his friends and family.

Mr. Pickens was my band director at Elkins Junior High School in the early 60\'s. Through his tireless efforts, his Junior High Band recorded and produced a record of several of the songs we had practiced throughout the year. A major undertaking for a young band director with junior high kids. We worked hard for him because of the high level of respect we had developed for \"Mr. Pickens\". He was tough and expected us to work hard, resulting in the best Junior High Marching Band in the state. He taught me self discipline, and the reward of hard work. I told him a few years ago he was my most respected teacher throughout my years in school. My sincere sympathy. Sally Waller Gray E.J.H.S Band

Mr. Pickens was a wonderful man. I always knew Mr. P. was someone important but he never acted as if he was anything more than Lauras dad. I recall our 6th grade trip to Pittsburgh and I sat with him for part of the trip. We ate Chessmen Pepperidge Farms cookies where I learned about buttery cookies. Trips to WVU games and Christmas Eve dinners on the coffee table with Laura and Jim Bower in the Pickens living room. That was the Stan Pickens I'll always remember. RIP Mr. P.
