Barbara Jean Tomes Whitehair, 68, of Clarksburg, passed away on Monday, January 1, 2018 in the Ruby Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

She was born in Clarksburg of September 23, 1949, a daughter of the late Homer Tomes, Sr. and Flossie Williams Nay.

Surviving are six children, Scott Tomes and his wife Julie of Salem, Michelle Tomes and her companion Nathaniel of Clarksburg, Todd Lancaster of Clarksburg, Joni Richison and her husband Matt of Nutter Fort, David Lancaster of Clarksburg, and April Richison and her husband Pat of Nutter Fort; 10 grandchildren, Hannah, Hobie and Heidi Tomes, Elias and Ethan Grant, Merissa Buffey, Patrick and Samantha Richison, Abbie Lowther and her husband Dustin and Alexandria Richison; three brothers, Charles Nay and his wife Shirley of Morgantown; Raymond Nay of Arizona, and Elbie “Steve” Nay and his wife Sandra of Sun Valley; two sisters, Lucille Baker and her husband David of West Milford, and Virginia Jenkins and her companion Robert Griffith of Gore; and several nieces and nephews, with two special nieces close to her heart, Stephanie Bassel and Jodie Heflin.

She was also preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Lancaster and Ella Calvert; and two brothers, Donald and George Nay.

Mrs. Whitehair graduated from Victory High School and was retired from Heritage Nursing Home. She was a member of the Hepzibah Baptist Church and attended the Oak Mound Evangelical Church.

Family and friends may call at the Oak Mound Evangelical Church, 401 Oakmound Road, Clarksburg, WV on Thursday, January 4, 2018 from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, where funeral services will be at 2:00 pm with Reverend David Baker officiating.

In keeping with her wishes, Mrs. Whitehair will be cremated following the service.
