David M. “Dave” Riddle, 64, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2024, at the West Virgina Veterans Nursing Facility with his loving wife by his side.
He was born in Clarksburg on September 18, 1959, a son of the late Bernard R. and Annalee Hurst Riddle.
After many years of being together, Dave married Betty Wilson Riddle on July 16, 2021, who resides at their home in Clarksburg.
In addition to his wife, Dave is survived by three children, Kristyn Nicole Riddle and companion Alex Cunningham of Florida, David Michael Riddle, II of Seattle, and Travis Wayne Riddle and companion Casey Helmick of Clarksburg; two bonus children, Jack Stout and wife Tonya of Wheeling, WV, and Julia Stout of Clarksburg; one granddaughter, Emma Grace McElwain of Florida; two brothers, Steven C. Riddle and wife Loretta of Hamilton, OH and Kevin S. Riddle and companion Caitlin of Clarksburg; two special family friends, Rev. Rita R. Robinson of Shinnston and Danny Sears and wife Nancy of Buckhannon; his loving mother-in-law, Kathie Wilson; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Dave was a graduate of Liberty High School, Class of 1977. Following high school, he and his best friend, Dan, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and he was proud to call himself a Marine for the rest of his life; Semper Fi!! Upon his arrival back to Clarksburg, Dave began working at the Clarksburg Publishing Company, Exponent Telegram, as a Pressman. He would spend the next 40 years there until his retirement in 2020.
In addition to working as a pressman, Dave had many other hobbies and skills. He was a hard worker and skilled craftsman. There was not a thing he could not build or fix. He moonlighted most days doing construction and other odd jobs, and in 1994, he finished construction on the house he would call a home for the next 30 years of his life. Though Dave spent most of his life working, he enjoyed attending NASCAR Races, hunting, fishing, and going to the beach with his wife Betty, and if the kids could come, that made him even happier.
Above all, Dave loved his family. He constantly talked about his children and how proud he was of them, and you didn’t have to ask him if he loved his wife, Betty; it just showed. And because of that, he will be dearly missed by those who truly knew and loved him.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the nurses, CNA’s, dietary, activity, and maintenance staff at the WV Veterans Nursing Facility. Their care and kindness will never be forgotten, and they will always hold a special place in our hearts.
Though Early-Onset Alzheimer’s took a lot from Dave, including the memory of his family, the disease did not have the strength to take away his sense of humor, contagious laugh or his huge smile that could light up a room.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes to start a memorial fund in Dave’s memory to benefit the residents of the WV Veterans Nursing Facility. Donations can be made out to Travis Riddle(Dave Riddle Memorial Fund), 410 Roosevelt Rd, Clarksburg, WV 26301.
