John Edward Tyler, 89, of Stonewood, WV, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at his residence.

He was born in Arcola, WV, on April 1, 1937, a son of the Late Jonas and Destia Carpenter Tyler.

He was married on June 16, 1956, to Frances Ann Scarcelli Tyler, who preceded him in death on July 4, 2012.

Mr. Tyler is survived by his son John M. Tyler and his significant other Donna Sue Deem of Nutter Fort; two grandchildren, Cody Alexander Tyler and Catherine Elizabeth Tyler both of Clarksburg; two great grandchildren, Darla Tyler and Kayla Tyler both of Clarksburg; his brother, Robert “Thurman” Tyler and his fiancé Carlene Wright of Good Hope; his sister, Linda Stickel of Stonewood; as well as several nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his best friend, Robert Leonard of Mt. Clare; David and Rhonda Hardy and their children Kaitlyn and Alexander, of Stonewood, whom he called his “Angels”.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son James Anthony “Jimmy” Tyler; daughters-in-law, Darla Posey and Ella Louise Walls; and multiple brothers and sisters.

Mr. Tyler was a supervisor at Union Carbide, where he dedicated 25 years of service, and a devoted member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church. He loved sitting on his porch watching the buses go by, waving at the children he affectionately called his “screaming memes,” and greeting every passing car. John never met a stranger — he waved and spoke to everyone who passed by his home.
A true pepper connoisseur, John generously shared his harvest with the entire community. He also loved taking road trips, especially to Amish country in Pennsylvania, and he enjoyed listening to country music.
