Geneva Ruth Johnson Tyson, 89, of Bridgeport, WV, (previously Carlisle, PA), passed away on June 10, 2024, in the United Hospital Center following an extended illness.
She was born in West Union on May 12, 1935, a daughter of the late Ray B. and Violet Mae Thompson Johnson.
She married Charles M. Tyson who preceded her in death on September 21, 2006.
Surviving Geneva are five brothers, Larry “Brooks” Johnson of Salem, James D. Johnson of Salem, Michael W. Johnson and wife Charlotte of Warren, OH, David E. Johnson and wife Donna of Hepzibah, and Joseph L. Johnson and wife Brenda of Nutter Fort; and nieces and nephews, Robert Robison, Cindy Robison, Andrea Johnson, Chantel Campbell, Chayna Trent, Chris Johnson, Jason Johnson, Mickey Johnson, Melissa Johnson, Stacey Moore, David Johnson, Courtney Coberly, Adam Johnson, and Hilary DeFelice.
In addition to her parents and husband, Geneva is preceded in death by one brother, Ray K. Johnson; one sister, Carolyn Sue Robison, two sisters-in-law, Vicki Johnson and Elaine Johnson, and one brother-in-law, Harold Robison.
Geneva was a 1953 graduate of Doddridge County High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree from Penn State University. She retired as a secretary for the United States government having spent many years working at the Pentagon.
Geneva lived life to the fullest. With Charles being a Lt. Colonel in the Army, they travelled and lived all over Europe. She was also a devout Christian and a most generous, kind-hearted sister who loved her family dearly. Geneva was an avid golfer and loved to ski, play tennis, and bridge in her spare time.
