Mary Jo was a member of the St. James Catholic Church. She loved her church and was a strong person of faith. She always had a Rosary in her hand and prayer books at her side. Through the years at St. James, she was a member of Parish Council, Altar Rosary Society where she served as Spiritual Chairman, and Telephone Committee, Prayer Network Chairman, Liturgy Committee, Alter Server Scheduler and Lector.
Mary Jo loved West Virginia football and basketball. She never missed a game and knew all the players by name and number. She loved crossword puzzles, game shows and the Hallmark Channel. Mary Jo loved her flowers and especially her Hummingbirds and Cardinals. She loved to cook, keeping the traditions of her Polish heritage. She was most famous for her cabbage rolls and pierogis. She loved to bake, especially her special Ho Ho Cake. If you came to visit her, she would always insist you were hungry and had to eat.
Time spent with family was very important to Mary Jo. She enjoyed attending any event that included one of her children, grandchildren or great grandchildren. She loved them with her whole heart, and they always made her proud, happy and smile. Mary Jo loved holidays and family traditions and especially loved Christmas Eve where the entire family would pray, eat and play games. She would end the evening by attending Midnight Mass.
When Mary Jo’s husband Sam was alive, they would take bus trips to Atlantic City, New York, Grand Ole Opry, Toronto and Niagara Falls and would attend WVU basketball and football games. They would dance every chance they could, and she would often tell stories about how she and Sam met dancing. She loved her Sam and missed him dearly after his death. It is comforting to know that she is now (pain free) with our Lord Jesus and she and her Sam are dancing together again.
