Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Sunday from 2:00 to 6:00 pm, where funeral services will be held on Monday, November 11, 2024 at 10:00 am with Reverend Terry Wilson officiating. In keeping with his wishes, Mr. May will be cremated following the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Nutter Fort Union Mission Church, P. O. Box 8102, Nutter Fort, WV 26301 or to the Shinnston American Legion Post 0031, 76 Bridge Shinnston, WV 26431.

Walter James May, 81, of Craigmoor, WV passed away due to an accident on Wednesday, November 6, 2024.

He was born in Hagans, WV on May 5, 1943, a son of the late Frank and Ann Semk May.

He is survived by his wife, Judith “Judy” Shahan May.

Also surviving are one son, William “Chris” (Angie) May of Clarksburg, and Melissa May (Ken Fulmer) of Fairmont; one brother, Frank “Jerry” (Catherine “Faye”) May of Morgantown; one granddaughter, Maria (Kerry) May Powers; and two great grandchildren, Sophia and Noah Powers; along with several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Chad May; and two siblings, Ramona Shuman and Jack May.

Mr. May was a 1961 graduate of Morgantown High School and was a United States Army veteran, where he was a rifle sharpshooter having served in Korea from 1963 to 1965.

Walter began working at a gas station in Fairmont at the age of 15 and never stopped until his retirement from Grant Town Powerhouse in Grant Town, WV. He was also previously employed at PPG Glass and Union Carbide Corporation. Walter was a member of the American Legion Post 0031 in Shinnston. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, spending time with family and friends, and he liked winning.
