Nancy Lee Toquinto Holt, 84, of Shinnston and formerly of Clarksburg and Florida, passed away June 19, 2025, at Ruby Memorial Hospital surrounded by family following a brief illness.

She was born on Oct. 13,1940 in Webster Springs, the daughter of the late Thurman and Mary Hendren. She is survived by her husband, James Holt, her partner and friend, whom she married on Oct. 28, 1988.

In addition to her husband, Nancy is survived by her three children, Melinda Toquinto Alonso of Clarksburg, Tim Toquinto of McConnellsville, Ohio, and Jeff Toquinto and wife Valerie of Clarksburg. She is also survived by her three grandchildren whom she adored, Jordan Mitchell McGrath and husband Josh, and Nina Alonso and Camron Surock. A sister, Pam Thompson and husband Charles of Morgantown survive her.

Nancy inherited another group of children and grandchildren when she married Jim. They are Teresa Hall and her partner Chris Oliver of Rockwell, and grandchildren Stacy, Trevor, and Abby, and great grandson, Koah, all of North Carolina; Guy Holt and wife Lisa of Florida, and Clint Holt and wife Toni of Shinnston.

She also inherited a bevy of nieces and nephews, and many other family members whom she loved dearly.

Nancy was a 1958 graduate of Washington Irving High School but attended multiple other schools as the daughter of a coal miner including Lumberport High School. She worked her early years at what is today Mon Power when located in downtown Clarksburg, and later she worked evenings at the former Parsons Souders Co., also in downtown Clarksburg. She would then spend the remainder of her career work back at Mon Power at the offices located behind the Nathan Goff Armory.

She was preceded in death by her younger brother, Charles Hendren. Along with her brother, she had many other relatives who had gone to be with the Lord. While Nancy loved all of her family, she was particularly fond of her Aunt Opal Buzzard and her cousin Libby Colombo, who helped raise her. The reunion with family is a portrait of joy we cannot comprehend and only the hand of God can paint.

She was also preceded in death by her sisters-in-law Susan Jo Holt, Patricia Ann Holt, Leona Belle Holt, and Janet Louise Holt, and brothers-in-law Robert Holt, William Edward Holt, Chester Raymond Holt, Charles Edwin Holt, and Ronald Duane Holt.

If Nancy had a fault, it was that she cared too much, up until her last minutes she was trying to make sure those she cared about would be taken care of. She never failed to put others first, even at her own expense.

Nancy enjoyed her breakfast with the Washington Irving graduates, her time at Lumberport reunions, getting together with co-workers from her time at Mon Power for luncheons, and her Friday night dinner group.

After family, the most important thing for Nancy was to laugh. Her laughter was not just infectious; it warmed the soul. It was a gift from God and one she was more than pleased to share with others.

The family would particularly like to thank the nursing staff and caregivers during her recent hospital stays. The kindness and compassion shown by those frontline workers who took care of her during her several weeks and UHC, and her brief stays at Tygart Health Care Genesis Center, WVU Medicine Fairmont Medical Center, and Ruby Memorial Hospital will not be forgotten by those who witnessed it.

The family will receive friends at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Tuesday, June 24th from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, June 25th, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. with Father Casey Mahone presiding. Interment will follow at the West Virginia National Cemetery in Pruntytown.
