Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Sunday, July 15, 2018 from 2:00 to 8:00 pm, where funeral services will be held on Monday, July 16, 2018 at 11:00 am with Reverend Bonnie Starkey and Reverend Sherman Goodwin officiating. Interment will be in the Floral Hills Memorial Gardens.

Cornelia Rose “Toots” Britton, 90, of Nutter Fort, passed away on Thursday, July 12, 2018, following an extended illness. She was born in Pickens, WV on April 14, 1928, a daughter of the late Elmer John and Rubye Pearl Sassi Betler.

 

She was married to Francis Eugene Britton for 55 years, who preceded her in death on July 19, 2003.

 

Surviving are one son, Robert Britton and his wife Patty of Bridgeport; one daughter, Jill DeFazio and her husband Joe of Nutter Fort; five grandchildren Katie McGinnis (Ben), Rebecca Hawk (Brian), Carrie Stanley (Jonathan), Michael DeFazio (Megan), and Benjamin DeFazio; four great-grandchildren, Ellie McGinnis, Cara McGinnis; Britton Stanley and Carter Joseph DeFazio who will be born in September; and several nieces and nephews.

 

She was also preceded in death by one brother, Robert Betler.

 

Mrs. Britton was a 1946 graduate of Roosevelt Wilson High School. She was a former telephone operator with C & P Telephone Company and a store clerk with Quality Foods Grocery. She was a member of the Vincent Memorial United Methodist Church where she was also a member of the United Methodist Women, a Sunday school teacher, and was a member of the Church Quilting Club. She was also a member of Queen Esther Chapter 11 Order of the Eastern Star and Ladies Oriental Shrine. Mrs. Britton was also a Nutter Fort Ad-Loy-Ho 4-H Club Leader, 4-H All Star, and active member of the Nutter Fort PTA, the RW High School Band Boosters, and the RW Alumni Band. She was secretary of the RW Class of 1946 and was a member of the Harrison County CEO’s and Nutter Fort Ladybugs CEO’s. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, basket weaving and various other crafts but her biggest accomplishment was babysitting all of her grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the WVU Medicine Hospice, 327 Medical Park Drive, Bridgeport, WV 26330, or to the Vincent Memorial United Methodist Church, 417 Indiana Avenue, Nutter Fort, WV 26301.
