Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, WV, on Monday from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. There will be a Prayer Vigil held at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday June 17, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church, 8092 3rd Street, Sonewood, WV, with Father Reddimasu Kumar as Celebrant. Interment will follow at the Bridgeport Cemetery.

Deloris June Gabriel Barnes, 80, of Clarksburg, WV and Pittsburgh, PA, passed away June 13, 2025, surrounded by her family.

She was born in Ziesing, WV on January 2, 1945, a daughter of the late James Gabriel and Mary Perry
Gabriel.

She was married to John J. Barnes on July 15, 1967, who preceded her in death on April 11, 2021.

Surviving is one son, John R. Hixenbaugh and his husband Scott Hixenbaugh of Pittsburgh, PA; her brother, Richard Gabriel and his wife Loretta Gabriel of Goose Creek, SC; sister-in-law, Faye Gabriel, Federalsburg, MD, sister-in-law, Elizabeth “Bets” Barnes of Clarksburg, WV; brother-in-law, Sam Barnes and his wife Cathy Barnes of Shinnston, WV, brother-in-law, Robert Barnes and his wife Virginia Barnes of Mechanicsburg, VA; sister-in-law, Sherry Barnes of Bridgeport, WV; as well as many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, great-great nieces and great-great nephews.

Deloris was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Gabriel, brothers-in-law, Randy Barnes and James Barnes; sisters-in-law, Joan Barnes, Judy “Mitz” Andrew and husband Dave Andrew, and Rose-Ella Matheny and husband John Matheny;

Deloris was a graduate of Victory High School and West Virginia Business College where she studied administrative and secretarial arts.

Deloris loved her family and was always a big part in holidays, gatherings and get-togethers. She loved to cook, bake and always welcomed anyone into her home for coffee, cookies or whatever else she had to offer. She was a founding member of the Eastview Ladies Lion’s club and was active in many other community associations and events.
