Family and friends may call at Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Saturday, July 20, 2019 from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm, where funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm with Pastor Carl Radcliff officiating. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Helen Mae Riffle Lowther Beto, 89, of Morgantown, passed away at home surrounded by her family on Tuesday, July 16, 2019.

 

She was born in Adrian, WV on November 26, 1929, a daughter of the late Roscoe and Opal Riffle. Having lost both of her parents at age 3, Helen was adopted and lovingly raised by George and Anna Fox Lowther of West Milford.

 

She was married to Joseph M. Beto, who preceded her in death in 1998.

 

Surviving are two daughters, Georgianna Cupp and her husband Ray of Clarksburg, and Jonienne Hazel and her husband John of Morgantown; one step-son, John Fidler of Buffalo Lake; two step-daughters, Maryann Peacock and her husband Bruce of Maryland, and Catherine Bowman of Virginia; five grandchildren, Matthew Kintz of Ohio, Marcus Kintz and his wife Lori of Bridgeport, Joshua Kintz of Maryland, John W. “Buck” Hazel, IV and his wife Angela of Kentucky, and Jeremiah Hazel and his wife Alexandra of Rhode Island; four step grandchildren, Joseph Bowman and his wife Misty, Gino Haddaway, Kimberly Haddaway and Joel Fidler; 13 great grandchildren, Lacy, Justin, Emily, Megan, Elijah, Isaiah, Noah and Kobe Kintz, Joseph, Hunter, Jack, Jake and Maks Hazel; and five step great grandchildren, Isabelle Cunanan, Dakota and Harmony Bowman, and Ethan and Morgan Haddaway.

 

She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Clifford and Russell Riffle; and three sisters, Marguerite Radcliff, Juanita Ozburn and Mildred Ward.

 

Mrs. Beto was a 1947 graduate of Unidis High School and was the Director of Volunteer Services at United Hospital Center and for Friends of WVU Hospital. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Clarksburg and was a member of the WV Directors of Volunteer Services. Helen was the ultimate WVU sports fan, especially Girls Basketball, and was a member of Hoops and Heels, and attended several of her grandchildren’s and great grandchildren’s sporting events. She enjoyed baking cakes, craft shows and painting, and loved teaching her grandchildren how to paint.

 

The family would like to thank Amedisys Hospice and staff of Morgantown and special caregivers, Lucy and Wanda for their love and wonderful care.
