Family and friends may call at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church, 1766 Milford Street, Clarksburg (Rt. 19 S.) from 10:00 to 11:00 am on Monday, June 10, 2019, where Mrs. Kirkpatrick will lie in state for one hour prior to the service, which will be held at 11:00 am with Pastor Linda Muhly officiating. Interment will be in the WV National Cemetery.

Helen M. Swisher Kirkpatrick, 89, of Bridgeport, passed away on Tuesday, June 4, 2019.

 

She was born in Grafton on July 4, 1929, a daughter of the late Ulysses S. and Bertha Cross Swisher.

 

She was married for 48 years to William T. Kirkpatrick, who preceded her in death in February 2010.

 

Surviving are three daughters, Melody A. Wiant of Clarksburg, Joyce M. Clifton and her husband Steve of Jane Lew, and Linda L. Carlos of Laurelville, OH; six grandchildren, Lori J. Starkey, Matthew A. Perkins, Krystena D. Perkins, Jeremy W. Clifton, Jodi L. Day and Kristen M. Sparks; and several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

 

She was also preceded in death by three sisters, Clara Morris, Thelma Stevens, and Mary Wells; and five brothers, Charles Swisher, Leroy Swisher, Robert “Bobby” Swisher, Donald “Buddy” Swisher and Ulysses Swisher, Jr.

 

Helen was a Grafton High School graduate and a former employee of C & P Telephone Company with 14 ½ years of service. She was also a member of Queen Esther Chapter 11 Order of Eastern Star, the Harrison County Senior Citizens, and the St. Mark’s Lutheran Church where she was also a member of several women’s groups.

 

Helen enjoyed traveling, playing cards, spending time with her family and weekend get-a-ways at their camp in Ritchie County.

 

Special thank you to her granddaughter, Krystena, for her love and care that allowed Helen to maintain her independence, remain at home as long as possible, and for always bringing a smile to her face.
