Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, on Monday from 3:00 to 8:00 pm, and Tuesday from 9:00 am to 11:00 am, where Catholic Funeral Rites will be held on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at 11:00 am with Father Chris Turner presiding.   Interment will be in the Bridgeport Cemetery.

James Patrick O’Mara, 77, of Bridgeport, passed away on Thursday, June 13, 2019 in the United Hospital Center.

 

He was born in Indianapolis, IN on January 20, 1942, a son of the late William E. and Madalione Scheller O’Mara.

 

He is survived by his wife, Joan Elsey O’Mara, whom he married on July 14, 1961.

 

Also surviving are one son, James Patrick O’Mara II and his wife Sherry of Clarksburg; three daughters, Kelly Ash and her husband Matt of Bridgeport, Mary Powers and her husband Jerry of Bridgeport, and Jennifer O’Mara of Bridgeport; 10 grandchildren, R. J. Powers and his girlfriend Katie, Ryan Powers and his wife Sarah, Logan Ash, Luke Ash, James Patrick “Trey” O’Mara III and his wife Adriane, Jenna O’Mara Schwartzmiller and her husband Jay, Katie O’Mara and her boyfriend Fraser Brown, Owen O’Mara, Zac Renquest, and William Hunter Renquest and his girlfriend Rebecca; seven great grandchildren, Adalyn, Harper and Finley Powers, Declan, Rauri and Lochlain O’Mara, and Landon Harbert; two brothers, Mike O’Mara and his wife Janice of Indianapolis, IN, and Tim O’Mara and his wife Kris of Charlotte, NC; and two sisters, Kathy Vondersaar and her husband Rob, and Therese O’Mara and her companion Steve, both of Indianapolis, IN.

 

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Jerry Scheller; and two sisters, Sister Mary Joan Scheller and Patty West.

 

Mr. O’Mara was a member of the All Saints Catholic Church.

 

In 1965, Mr. O’Mara moved his family to WV to open the Burger Chef franchise with his brothers. Shortly after July 1970 he opened the Bonanza Family Restaurant in the Tri State Area with 23 stores. During that time, he continued to open and operate the Mark Anthony, the Copper Kettle and Snapps Restaurants, continuing on with the USA Steak Buffet until his retirement in 2009.  He was an avid sports enthusiast and loved his grandchildren and enjoyed watching them play sports.
