Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Sunday, May 12, 2024 from 1:00 to 3:00 pm, where funeral services will be held at 3:00 pm with his good friend and Pastor Steve Hinerman presiding. In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Carter will be cremated following the service.

Jesse W. “J.W.” Carter, 85, of Lost Creek passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at his residence.

He was born in Lost Creek on June 26, 1938, a son of the late Jesse M. and Mary Elizabeth Carr Carter.

Twice married, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Phyllis Ann Gerrard Carter. He is survived by his second wife, Mary Jane Morris Carter, whom he married on November 21, 1998.

Also surviving are two daughters, Joyce Winning and her husband John of Spartanburg, SC and Brenda Davis and her husband Scott of Lost Creek ; three grandchildren, Tonya Shriver, Julie (Jason) Faulkner and Jessie (Josh) Kimball; four great grandchildren, Kaylee Warner, Madison Kimball, Mackenzie Kimball and Emily Shriver; best friends Max (Loretta) Hinerman and Don (Nancy) Messenger; and his daughter’s dog Big Murray.

He was also preceded in death by one son, Jerry Wayne Carter; and one son-in-law, David Warner.

Mr. Carter was a United States Army veteran and was retired from Union Carbide Corporation with 35 years of service. He loved traveling and visiting his family in South Carolina. Jesse had a green thumb and loved yard work. He loved going on cruises, never met a stranger and was also a huge WVU fan. He was a member of the Calvary United Methodist Church where he was an usher and sang in the choir.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to the West Milford Volunteer Fire Department, 577 Liberty Street, West Milford, WV 26451.
