Joseph George Allessio, 90, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away on March 20, 2020 at the Ruby Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

He was born of February 21, 1930 in Clarksburg, a son of the late John and Rosa Spadafore Allessio.

Joseph is survived by his wife Shirley Jean Metz Allessio, whom he married on April 3, 1963 in Oakland, MD.

In addition to his wife, Joseph is survived by two daughters, Mary A. Greene and husband Rick of Bridgeport, and Lori A. Mayo and husband Chris of Mannington; three grandchildren, Rachael Bickel and husband Chris, Renee Williams and husband Ethan, and Alex Cross; two great-grandchildren, Emma and Nathan; two children from his previous marriage, Lillian Heckman, and Lawrence Allessio; and several nieces and nephews.

Joseph is the last surviving member of his immediate family having been preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Alossie Allessio, Carmen Allessio; and six sisters, Julia Leatherman, Sarah Reger, Anna Pishner, Clara Allessio, Mary S. Allessio, and infant Mary Susie Allessio.

Joseph was a 1949 graduate of Roosevelt Wilson. High School. He served as a Sergeant in the U.S. Army Engineers during the Korean War. Joseph worked at Lynch Stacy Funeral Home for over 25 years and was the owner of Allessio’s-Tuccillo’s Pizza in Broadway.

Mr. Allessio was a lifetime member of both the American Legion Post 68, and Meuse-Argonne VFW Post 573, where he served as Post Commander from the years 2000 to 2004; the first member since 1928 to serve as Post Commander four consecutive years. And, the first husband and wife to serve as Post Commander and President of the Ladies Auxillary at the same time. Joseph was a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge #52, and the Clarksburg BPO Elks Lodge. He was Catholic by Faith.
