Marie Hardman Dussart, loving mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend passed away on Sunday March 24, 2024, at the age of 93.

She was born July 16, 1930, in Knight Hollow Mt. Clare, West Virginia, the daughter of Frank and Flora Dodd Hardman. Marie spent the last 66 years as a resident of West Milford, WV.

She was married to Albert “Birdie” Dussart, who proceeded her in death January 3, 1984.

Marie loved to cook and was best known for her meatballs, homemade bread, homemade applesauce and the largest pot of vegetable soup a non- commercial stove could handle. She could fry up a skillet of fried potatoes faster than the speed of light and made the best Italian dressing you have ever tasted. She also loved to garden and canned many styles of peppers, pickles, jellies and jams each year. She enjoyed bingo, Florida trips, yellow roses, George Strait, Days of Our Lives, cats and most importantly visits from her family. There was rarely a time there was not a puzzle on the dining room table, a Find-A-Word book in every room and Jeopardy or Wheel of Fortune on the television. She wore many hats during her lifetime while raising her family in the West Milford community, she was the neighborhood hairdresser and would have up to 3 ladies at a time in her dining room getting their hair done, a grandma to all the neighborhood children, the place to come during the parks and rec scavenger hunts, and the best front porch swing, talks, and back scratches. She was a caretaker, taking care of her ailing parents and husband, helping her friends and family recover from injuries, babysat, and spoiled all the grandchildren and loved her daughters endlessly.

For many years Marie worked at Elite Cleaners until her retirement. She then went on to work the front counter at Marty’s Bakery. She was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 2353, where she held many offices, the highest of which being Grand Madam President. Being a cancer survivor herself she would go on to head up their cancer society fundraisers for several years raising thousands of dollars for cancer research. She was also a member of the Loyal Order of Moose-Lodge 52, Meuse-Argonne VFW Post 573, and The Harrison County Elks Lodge 2875.

One daughter and one son predeceased Marie, Roberta Lynn Toothman, and Fred Alfred Dussart, two brothers, William W. Hardman, and wife Samilda, and Michael David Hardman, one sister Aretta Lou Paugh and husband Paul. She was also predeceased by two sons in law and one daughter in law, James Ottis Henderson, Robert Cleo Myers, and Patricia Ann Dussart.

Being the oldest of her siblings, she is survived by one brother Richard “Dick” Hardman of Mt. Clare, WV.

As a loving mother, she is survived by two daughters, Nancie Henderson, and Alberta Myers, both of West Milford and one son in law Jimmy Toothman of West Milford. Marie was fortunate enough to be survived by eleven grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and ten great-great grandchildren.
