The family will receive friends at Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Clarksburg on Friday, May 31, 2019 from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m., where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 p.m. to conclude the visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, June 1, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 317 E. Main Street, Bridgeport, WV 26330, with Father Benedict Kapa, Father Chris Turner and Father Patsy Iaquinta presiding over the ceremony. Interment will be in the Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mary “Gloria” D’Annunzio Alvarez, 93, of Bridgeport, WV, passed away peacefully in her home Monday, May 27, 2019 surrounded by her family and faithful caregivers.

 

 

Gloria was born on May 8, 1926 in Clarksburg, WV. She was the oldest child of the late Vincenzo James “Jimmy D” D’Annunzio and Mary Catherine “Katie” Iaquinta D’Annunzio.

 

 

She was preceded in death by the love of her life and husband of 45 years, Manuel “Bridge” Alvarez II, her two brothers and beloved sisters-in-law Samuel D’Annunzio and wife Lucia, Natale “Ben” D’Annunzio and wife Peggy, Josephine Alvarez, Mildred Alvarez, and her grandson Eric D. Willis.

 

 

Gloria was the proud mother of three children – daughter Mary Kathryn Alvarez Turner and her husband Ron of Wilmington, N.C., and sons Manuel Alvarez III and wife Ann, and David B. Alvarez and wife Kim, both of Bridgeport.

 

 

She is also survived by brother-in-law Dr. Joseph Alvarez and wife Katie of Oakland, MD; her 11 grandchildren, who knew her as Nana – Charles “Chad” Willis, Crystal Turner Lynch and husband Sky, and Mary Turner of Wilmington N.C., Ryan Willis and wife Laura of Wendell, N.C., Christen Alvarez, Manuel Alvarez IV and wife Meredith, Amy Alvarez Halstead and husband Josh, Shane Miller, Ashleigh Miller, Andria Alvarez Wymer and husband Quinn, Laura Alvarez Sutton and husband Alex, Kara Alvarez and David B. Alvarez II all of Bridgeport, W.V; and her great-grandchildren Eric and Alexandria Alvarez, Lucas Halstead, and Grace and Bella Lynch. Gloria was blessed to have many loving and devoted nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and caretakers that she leaves behind.

 

 

Gloria, a graduate of Victory High School, was a fun-loving woman who enjoyed traveling, cooking, golfing and playing cards. Her most cherished memories were spent surrounded by family and friends. She was a devoted member of All Saints Catholic Church in Bridgeport, a member of the Sierra Club, and was the 2008 Italian Mother of the Year.
