Family and friends may call at the Congregational Missionary Church, 8095 Hazelwood Ave, Stonewood, on Sunday, September 15, 2024 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm, where services will be held on Monday, September 16, 2024 at 12:00 pm with Pastor Sherman Goodwin, Pastor Lou Ortenzio and Pastor Austin Lynch officiating. Mrs. Rhodes will lie in state for one hour prior to the service from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm. Interment will follow in the WV National Cemetery.

Nina Lou Martin Talkington Rhodes, 86, of Clarksburg passed away on Monday, September 9, 2024 at her residence.

She was born in Clarksburg on August 4, 1938, a daughter of the late Willis E. and Hazel Freeman Martin.

Twice married, she was preceded in death by her first husband, James “Don” Talkington on September 1, 1994, and is survived by her second husband, Thomas Nelson Rhodes whom she married on October 24, 1997.

Also surviving are four children, Gregory Lynn Talkington and his wife Diane of Clarksburg, Donetta Talkington Ortenzio and her husband Lou, Darin Talkington and his wife Heidi of Ohio and Betty Sue Rhodes Brooks and her husband Charlie of Arizona; eight grandchildren, Rachael Jones, Paige Paugh and her husband Elijah, Adam Talkington and his wife Tara, Sal Bombardiere and his wife Emily, Jocelyn Bombardiere, Troy Bombardiere, Connor Brooks and Kyle Brooks; 13 great grandchildren; one sister, Willa Jean Martin Frazier Green of Stonewood; and several nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by six brothers and sisters, Carroll “Don” Martin, William “Bill” Martin, Carl Martin, Russ Martin, Eva Andrick and Alberta “Bert” Green.
Mrs. Rhodes was a 1956 graduate of Roosevelt-Wilson High School. She previously worked in the accounting department at Palace Furniture and retired from the Bridgeport Mining Company as an executive secretary. Following retirement, she enjoyed babysitting her great niece and great nephew, Drew and Allie Ridgway. Nina sang in a gospel quartet for many years, including the Beulah Land Express and the Gospel Four. She was a founding and lifetime member of the Congregational Missionary Church where she taught Sunday school and sang in the choir.
