Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort, on Tuesday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m.   Reverend Baker will be taken to the Oak Mound Evangelical Church, 401 Oakmound Road, Clarksburg, on Wednesday, January 31, 2018, where funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. with Reverend Gary Alderman presiding.  He will lie in state one hour prior to the service.   Interment will be  in the West Virginia National Cemetery with Full Military Honors accorded.

Reverend David Earnest Baker, 69, of Clarksburg, WV, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018 at his residence following a 7 ½ month illness.

 

He was born in Wilsonburg, WV, on May 3, 1948, a son of the late Earnest Edward and Opal Irene Maxwell Baker.

 

David is survived by his wife of 52 years, Lucille Marie Tomes Baker, whom he married on July 20, 1965.

 

He is also survived by one son, Matthew R. Baker and wife Shikia of Lost Creek; two daughters, Melanie Baker-Wallace and husband Jeffrey “Wally” of Maple Lake, and Kelly Rose and husband George of Clarksburg; five grandchildren, David James Rose, Siera Paige Rose, Madalyn Grace Baker, Alivia Faith Baker, and Owen Matthew Baker;  three brothers, Glen Baker and wife Sharon of Duck Creek Road, Bill Baker and wife Ella Kay of Jarvisville, and Michael Baker and wife Doloras of Shinnston; two sisters, Carol Barker of Mt. Clare, Janet Johnson and husband Gale of Chugiak, Alaska; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Marvin Baker.

 

David was a veteran in the U.S. Army serving during the Vietnam Era.  He retired from EQT with 32 years of service as a compression station operator.

 

He was a born-again Christian who gave his life to the Lord Jesus Christ in January 1979.  He was called into the ministry in 1994, and served the Glen Falls Baptist Church for 16 years.  After leaving Glen Falls church he was then pastor of the Oak Mound Evangelical Church for six years.  This was the church where David accepted the offer of salvation from his Lord.  Prior to the ministry David taught Sunday School and helped with area youth.

 

David would like his wife, children and grandchildren to know how much he loved them, and looks forward to seeing them again in heaven.

 

To all who read this, Jesus said in St. John 3:3 “ye must be born again.”
