Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Sunday from 12:00 to 8:00 pm where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 pm to conclude the visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Casey Mahone and Father Patsy Iaquinta as co- Celebrants.   In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Shaffer will be cremated following the Mass.

Shirley James “Jim” Shaffer, Jr., 77, of Clarksburg, passed away on Friday, July 27, 2018 surrounded by loved ones following an extended illness.

 

He was born in Clarksburg on December 15, 1940, a son of the late Shirley J. Shaffer Sr., and Frances Josephine Fahey Shaffer.

 

Twice married, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Betty Jane Roda Shaffer. He is survived by his second wife, Joyce Renee Snider Shaffer.

 

Also surviving are six sons, Daniel Joseph Shaffer of Clarksburg, Nicholas Paul Shaffer of Clarksburg, John Patrick Shaffer and his wife Stephanie of South Point, OH, Alex Fahey Shaffer of Clarksburg, Shirley James Shaffer, III of Clarksburg, and Dr. David James Shaffer and his wife Janice of Wellsburg; three daughters, Renee Noel Shaffer of Clarksburg, Mary Frances Shaffer of Clarksburg, and Mary Elizabeth Caputo and her husband Sam of Clarksburg; seven grandchildren, Amelia Caputo, Jackson Shaffer, Noah Shaffer, Claire Shaffer, Erica Reese and her husband Tyler, Jennifer Johnson and her husband John, and Elizabeth Oliver and her husband Rick; five great grandchildren, Julian Johnson, Jude Johnson, Vivienne Oliver, Scarlett Oliver and Carter Oliver; three brothers, Michael Fahey Shaffer and his wife Mary of Clarksburg, Martin L. Shaffer of Clarksburg, and Donald Paul Shaffer and his wife Mary of Tucson, AZ; five sisters, Sister Gretchen Shaffer of Kermit, Mary Lou Borrelli of Victorsville, CA, Susanna Lancaster and her husband Hal of Long Beach, CA, Kristina Munger and her husband Rick of Tucson, AZ, and Michelle Newsome of Clarksburg; and many loving nieces and nephews.

 

He was also preceded in death by one brother, Joseph Francis Shaffer; and one sister, Karen Dumrauf Maxwell.

 

Mr. Shaffer was a 1959 graduate of Notre Dame High School, a graduate of Salem College, and was a United States Army veteran having served during the Vietnam Era. He was a retired Clarksburg Businessman and former Clarksburg City Mayor and member of the Clarksburg City Council. Mr. Shaffer was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Meuse Argonne Post No. 573 VFW and Clarksburg Council No. 872 Knights of Columbus.

 

Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Sunday from 12:00 to 8:00 pm where a prayer service will be held at 7:30 pm to conclude the visitation. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, July 30, 2018 at 11:00 am at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 126 East Pike Street, Clarksburg, with Father Casey Mahone and Father Patsy Iaquinta as con-celebrants.

 

In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Shaffer will be cremated following the Mass.
