Family and friends may call at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Sunday from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.  A prayer service will be held at 6:00 p.m. to conclude the visitation.   A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, January 7, 2019, at 10:00 a.m. at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, 126 East Pike Street, Clarksburg, with Reverend Father Casey Mahone as celebrant.   Per his request he will be cremated following the service.   In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Harrison County Humane Society, 2450 Saltwell Road, Shinnston, WV 26431.

Stephen D. Griffith III, 76, of Clarksburg, passed away on Wednesday, January 2, 2019, at the United Hospital Center.

 

He was born in Macon, Georgia, on June 30, 1942, a son of the late Stephen D. Griffith Jr. and the late Ruth Keeley Griffith.

 

He was married on November 23, 1968, to Sharon “Sherri” Criner Griffith, who resides at their home in Clarksburg.

 

He is also survived by two sons, Jason Griffith and wife Mary Jane Baniak of Keyser, WV, and Sean Griffith and wife Charms of Wenatchee, Washington; three grandchildren, Alexandra Griffith, Jillian Griffith and Meghann Griffith. Also surviving are two brothers, Michael Griffith and wife Michele of Charleston, and Kevin Griffith and wife Deanna of Clarksburg; one sister, Patricia Hollis and husband Nick of Washington, DC; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

Stephen was a graduate of Notre Dame High School and was a graduate of Salem College.  He served our country as a veteran in the U.S. Army Reserves.  He was a retired teacher from the Lewis County Board of Education.  For over 25 years he was in the family business, Griffith Inc., Volkswagen, Mercedes/Audi Dealership.

 

He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.  He was a former member of the Boy Scouts of America and a former member of Council of Boy Scouts.  He was a former member of the Harrison County Community Corrections Board and a former member of the Harrison County Civil Service Commissioners for Harrison County Sheriff’s Correctional Officers.

 

He was a past member of Lake Floyd Club, enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson, and spending time with his lunch group. Steve was affectionately known as Vice Mayor of P.J. Kelly’s Bar, and never met a stranger.
