Thomas Vincent Murphy, 87, of Akron, OH, formerly of Clarksburg, passed away on October 31, 2018, in Cleveland, OH, at the Cleveland Veterans Administration Medical Center.

 

He was born in Clarksburg, WV, on October 29, 1931, a son of the late Melvin E. Murphy, Sr. and the late Wilma I. McKinney Murphy.

 

He was married in 1954 to Kathryn Day Murphy, who preceded him in death on May 26, 1983.  Mr. Murphy is survived by two children, Debra A. Murphy and husband Jim of Akron, OH, and Brenda Sue Murphy of Akron, OH; two step-granddaughters, Jean Giunto and husband Steve of OH, and Katie Black and husband Andy of OH; two grandsons, Joshua Murphy and Matthew Murphy and wife Joanna; and six great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by siblings, Dorothy Rader of Bridgeport, Terry Holby and husband Kenneth of Clarksburg, Harry O. Murphy and wife Rosina of Clarksburg; and brother-in-law, Robert Heater of Clarksburg; as well as several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his twin brother, William, on October 31, 1931; his son, Thomas V. Murphy Jr.; siblings, Ella Jean Pritchard, Darlene Saunders, Lavern Murphy, Sandra Foltz, Melvin E. Murphy Jr.; and Luanne Heater.

 

Thomas attended Schools in the Adamstown area, and served our country as a veteran in the U.S. Army for over 20 years.  While in the Army, he was a supervisory cook in the mess, serving in Germany for six years, in the Korean Conflict, and the Vietnam War. After his career in the military, he settled in Akron, OH and worked in local restaurants.

 

Thomas was interred on December 3, 2018, in the Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman, OH, where full military graveside rites were accorded.

 

Gone but never forgotten.
