William “Bill” Clyde Powell, age 70, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 7, 2016 following an extended illness.  He was born October 24, 1946 in Flemington, WV, a son of the late Clyde Powell and Ollie Donaldson Powell.  His wife, Sue E. Bruce Powell, whom he married May 10, 2006, resides at their home in Jane Lew.

Bill is also survived by three children, William A. Stutler III of West Milford, Kristi Barnard and her husband Gibson of Meadowbrook, and Patricia Cayton and her husband Eric of Good Hope.  His beloved grandchildren, Kylee, Azlee, Gibson III, Rylee, Cynthia, and Connor.  Three sisters, Nellie Lynn Trimble and her husband Jim of Grafton, Mary Anna Wilfong and her companion Matt Fogg of Simpson, and Ruth Wilfong and her husband John of Flemington as well as several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by a brother and a sister, Junie Lee Powell and James C. Powell.

Bill was a graduate of Flemington High School, Class of 1964.  He was drafted in the United States Marine Corps, where he served active duty in the Vietnam Conflict from 1966 to 1972.

He was a member of the Flemington Volunteer Fire Department starting at a young age and continued his passion for fire service at the Stonewood Volunteer Fire Department.  Bill held many positions there including Deputy Chief, Assistant Chief and Chief of Company 12. Although it was a privilege to hold an officers position, Bill’s greatest passion was training his fellow fire firefighters having taught Fire Rescue 1 and 2, and Auto Extrication throughout the state of West Virginia. Combined, Bill had over 54 years of dedicating his life to fire service.

He was retired from Union Carbide (UCAR).  Following retirement, Bill and his wife Sue owned the B and S One Stop in West Milford.  He enjoyed taking the credit for preparing special meals for his many friends who patronized his business, especially his Valentine’s Day Dinners and having Block Party’s at the store.

He was a member of the Jewel City Church. He loved oldies music, old cars, and antiques. He especially loved old mining memorabilia that held a special meaning due to his dad passing away in a mining accident. Some of his happiest moments were on an orange tractor cutting grass, taking a ride through his property on his ATV, and sitting by a fire pit at night.

Family and friends will be received at the Amos Carvelli Funeral Home, 201 Edison Street, Nutter Fort on Tuesday from 6-8 PM and Wednesday from 2-8 PM.  The funeral service will be held in the funeral home on Thursday, January 12, 2017 at 9:00 AM with Pastor Robert Shingleton presiding.
