William Thomas (Tom) Watson, 81, of Clarksburg/Shinnston passed away on Thursday, April 4, 2024.

He was born at his childhood home in Shinnston on November 1, 1942, a son of the late Herbert James and Edna Grace Barnes Watson.

Tom graduated high school in 1960 and was a true Patriot who served his country in the United States Army after being drafted in 1966.

Tom married Vyolet (Susie) Melton in August 1963 and they welcomed a baby girl, Misty Michelle, in June 1978. He loved his daughter deeply and wanted her to have the world.

After returning home from military service, he first worked for WV Department of Highways. He then started his career at Lockheed Martin Aeronautical where he retired after 35 years of service.

Tom married Cherry Frazier Watson in April 2009. He loved his wife and two stepdaughters, Sheena and Marisa.

Tom was a member of St. John’s Lodge No. 24 A.F. & A.M. Shinnston, WV. His hobbies included hunting with his brothers and nephews, fishing, camping, and being outdoors tinkering on this and that. He also enjoyed gunsmithing. Most of all he loved watching Mountaineer football, especially with his daughter who learned everything about football. He is already missed and will always be missed by his loving family.

Tom is survived by his wife, Cherry Watson; daughter, Misty (Kenneth) Hurd; stepdaughters, Sheena (Eric) Short and Marisa Parsons; and several grandchildren as well as many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Tom was also preceded in death his brothers James and Frank Watson, sisters Kathleen Langston and Carol McNemar.
