James Eugene Bassell, 75, of Clarksburg, passed away at the United Hospital Center on Wednesday, December 27, 2023.

James was born in Clarksburg on July 5, 1948, a son of the late Isaac and Mary Randall Bassell.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Richards Bassell.

James is survived by his two children, Kelli Hicks and her husband Michael of Beverly and James Bassell II of Clarksburg; four grandchildren, Britney, Connie, Harold and Jasmine; three great-grandchildren; step-daughter, Ronna Righter; siblings, Frank Bassell, John Bassell, Vickie Bartlett and Debbie Bassel; several nieces and nephews; and his dog, Tazz.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded by his siblings, Carl Bassell, Chuck Bassell, Jerome Bassell, Isaac Bassell Jr., Alvin Bassell, Dora Mae Jenkins and Susan Bassell.

James served in the Army Reserve and previously worked for the City of Clarksburg. He was a member of the Clarksburg Eagles #2353 and a volunteer fireman for Stonewood and Mt. Clare Fire Departments. He was an avid WWE wrestling fan and enjoyed watching tv in his free time.

In keeping with his wishes, Mr. Bassell will be cremated.
