Leonce Roger LeBel, 87, of West Union, passed away in the early morning hours Sunday, October 8, 2023, in the United Hospital Center.

Leonce was born in St. Hermenegilde, Quebec, Canada, the son of the late Pierre and Cecile LaPointe LeBel.

He is survived by three of his children, Pierre LeBel and his wife Barbara of Bristol WV, David LeBel of NY, Michelle Olivier and her husband Jason of Vermont, and preceded by his son, Leonce A. LeBel, whose wife Pam still resides in Weston WV; several grandchildren and great-grandchildren; three siblings, Pierrette Wishnowsky, Gaetane Raymond, and Gustave LeBel; former wife of many years Urbina Shatney.

He was also preceded in death by his parents.

Leonce dedicated his life to doing what he loved most, logging. He started when it was a two man saw and logs went down the river for transport until he had to stop in his 80’s. He was a self-employed logger who was passionate about his work. His strength, stubbornness, and hard work were beyond compare. Leonce embodied the term Tough men, Big boots. He loved fishing and hunting along with building various things and enjoying time with his family. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus chapter in New York.

In keeping with his wishes, Mr. LeBel will be cremated and returned to Canada to be laid to rest next to his parents, services will be held in Canada at a later time.
