When I was a very young girl I met “Ernie”. He lived in our little village and went to our church in Lake Milton Ohio. I know one might say you can’t know love at 13-14 years old but here I at 70 and can still remember how special I felt around him. ... my heart would sore. He fell in love with a pretty little lady Sandy, and I his best friend Gary. They joined the Marines together and went off to serve our country... ( I believe that’s where he got the nickname “Chico”. Gary joined for two years and Ernie for three and after boot camp they did see each other much and the shopped Ernie off to Vietnam .... While serving and fighting for our country there was an accident.... and I’m so grateful God spared his life. Gary and I was married and I lost track of where Ernie was shorty after he got out of the service. I tried to keep up off and on through his sister Jeannie in Ohio, but not always successful, so I ask that she and a couple others I knew would give him my contact information “just in case” he ever wanted to reach out. Life passed, and MANY years, relationships, moves, and so on. ... than one day while I was at home in Vegas, I got a call... a pause of silence. at other end for a moment, than the voice called me by my real name.... “Terri”.... “ do you know who this is” ..... ( it was my turn to swallow, take a deep breath, and like the voice at the other end.... tremble a bit ) .... as I replied “ Ernie, is that you”? The conversation was beautiful but I was a married woman.... and could not run to him as I sooo wanted to. How many years I longed for that call, to see his face, give him the biggest hug and feel that feeling that had not gone away since I was a young teenage girl. Now it is February 24th, 2022....and I just learned of his passing this week. I am so beyond heartbroken, as my dream of “Someday” the Right time, right day, right place.... I would once again feel his arms holding me and making the world go away.......... oh my Ernie, my Chico, my forever love.... until we meet again that beautiful smile, hang on to each special memory, and thank God for the brief NEVER ENDING love that I carried in my heart from the most gentle soul I ever knew.... Until we meet again my love.... until we meet again ???? Through Ernie’s
